Summer On The Mount – Do Unto Others
We should focus on developing our own spiritual maturity and relationship to God and be prepared to give grace to others. Jesus wants His followers to focus on their own spiritual growth and relationship to God instead of judging others’ shortcomings. Throughout scripture we see references to a measuring scale, ‘As one measures it will be measured back to one’. There were also Old Testament principles that false witnesses were to receive the penalty they sought for the accused and that God opposed unjust judges. The plank was a considerable piece of timber. Jesus also used imagery to illustrate that a person who fixes his gaze on something quite unimportant in someone else, does not notice what is much more significant in himself.
